"Legends" - Netflix's new 90s undercover thriller
Just saw some news about a new Netflix UK series called Legends and it actually looks like it could be a banger.
It’s set in the 90s and follows a group of UK customs officials who get recruited by the police to go undercover and infiltrate drug gangs. Apparently, it’s based on a true story where the government was so short-staffed they had to train regular border/customs staff to do high-stakes undercover work.
A few things that caught my eye:
The Cast: Tom Burke is in the lead (love him in Strike), and Steve Coogan is playing their handler/trainer. Seeing Coogan in a serious, gritty role is always interesting.
The Vibe: It gives off major old-school BBC/Channel 4 crime drama vibes—very "scarily realistic" rather than over-the-top Hollywood action.
The Format: It’s a limited series, only 6 episodes. Perfect for a weekend binge without the fear of it getting cancelled on a cliffhanger.
The trailer just dropped and it’s looking pretty intense. It’s supposed to hit Netflix on May 7th.
Is anyone else getting Line of Duty or The Gold vibes from this? I feel like Netflix has been hitting it out of the park with these UK crime thrillers lately.
What do you guys think? Worth a watch or just another police procedural?
